Punished for being quiet: Sharon Rooney at risk of being banished on The Celebrity Traitors

Season 2 of The Celebrity Traitors might easily topple last season where chattyman Alan Carr won off humour and goodwill because the Faithful refused to believe he could be a Traitor, even though he couldn’t call himself Faithful with a straight face.

This season's Traitors are much better at feigning innocence and faithful behaviour, excluding Richard E Grant of course. In the case of recruited comedian James Acaster, he reminds us regularly that he didn’t want to be a Traitor and that his true calling and best use of his skills is as a Faithful.

Still someone in the castle is slowly starting to catch on to their methods, Scottish actress Sharon Rooney. Best known for playing Rae on E4’s My Mad Fat Diary, Rooney has started to find her voice and detective's hat in the Scottish castle.

Following the murder of actor and documentarian Ross Kemp in plain sight, the Faithful start to wonder how the Traitors managed to kill the most paranoid member of the group. Sharon starts to nosey around the castle looking for clues and picks up the different perfume bottles across the castle and their various effects. A clue a Faithful James Acaster had spotted on arrival.

The investigative part of The Traitors is usually pushed to the side on the celebrity editions of the series as they are more interested in telling each other how much they love and adore the other. But the self-proclaimed Poundland Poriot, is on the case.

Rooney is adamant that the perfumes played a role the Kemps murder and correctly suggests that the sleep perfume was the one that they Traitors must’ve used.

She is also the only one, as of yet, to have any suspicion on OG Traitor, presenter Maya Jama.

Instead of being impressed by Sharon's latest findings many of the Faithful now find her vocal approach suspicious, questioning if she had been recruited. Why else would she suddenly become more talkative?

Sadly as a more reserved person this struck a chord for me. Often if you prefer to be quieter, people ask and will you to talk more. When there are pockets of time you do want to talk more, this is seen as shocking and overly remarked upon.

Sharon even tells them at the round table that she had to build up her confidence throughout their time together in the Scottish Highlands, so that she now felt comfortable bringing things up at the round table.

She doesn’t help herself by being defensive and encouraging the team to vote for her out of frustration. But when you know who you are, why should you fight to prove yourself?

Now, her new-found confidence might cost Sharon her place in the game with the votes being near tied between her and chaotic comedian Joanne, who is also Faithful. So either outcome is beneficial to the Traitors.

We find out the banished faithful in the next episode of The Celebrity Traitors, on Thursday 9pm on BBC One.
