Will Robert Pattinson be the last Batman?

Image
On September 3 rd it was reported that Robert Pattinson had tested positive for Covid-19 and was beginning to self-isolate. This came within the first week that filming for The Batman was allowed to restart since the Coronavirus pandemic shutdown everything earlier this year. A still from The Batman teaser trailer  Despite all these bumps in the road, Pattinson is still set to be the 10 th actor to play the Caped Crusader, but will he be the last? Batman has made appearances on our screens since 1943 via a range of actors, many of whom only got to play Bruce Wayne once before departing from the franchise. The actor at the forefront isn’t the only aspect of the DC comic that has changed, but also the directors, aspects of Batman’s origin story and the actor behind the villains, including Batman’s most well-known opponent the Joker. Most recently, Joaquin Phoenix played the criminal mastermind in Joker (2019), to critical acclaim. Within that version though, it is su...

Iron Man’s a bit of a prick, isn’t he?

Image
Typically, superheroes are humble. They hide their identity and lead a normal life outside of their superhero persona. Iron Man does not. Well more accurately, Tony Stark doesn’t. Stark was a self-centred rich playboy long before he created his Iron Man suit and was given another reason for his ego to expand. He even heroically announces ‘I am Iron Man’, at the end of his first film. But both versions of him are well loved despite his arrogance and attention seeking. In all the films in the Iron Man franchise along with his appearances in other Marvel films, he uses witty one liners and flaunts his tech knowledge which we love to watch. Even encourage. Some theorise that we like Stark because in many ways he is like us. He suffers from anxiety, struggles to deal with the problems in life without the vices of drugs and alcohol as well as to maintain a healthy relationship with Pepper. Despite being a superhero, he is heavily flawed. His humanity remains one of his most va...

Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse

Image
‘What are you some sort of cartoon or something’ Scorpion Never have I been so upset to have missed a cinema release of a film than I have after seeing the rave reviews and striking animation for Spider-Man Into The Spider-Verse. Spider-Man, in my opinion, has always been best presented in cartoon form, from the original comic books to the now cancelled TV series of The Ultimate Spider-Man. In the latest cartoon instalment, after getting bitten by radioactive spider, awkward teenager Miles Morales ends up in the middle of a battle between Spider-Man and Kingpin which ends in Spider-Man’s death. In Miles’ efforts to undo the damage that Kingpin has done he discovers that he isn’t the only Spider-Man left. The film follows a formulaic structure as each different Spider-Man has pretty much the same origin story, but this still is entertaining to watch and see the slight differences in their stories. All of them use their different experiences to help Miles understand with h...

The Rock is the Worst Actor from the WWE

Image
Despite the joint second highest paid actor of 2019 being Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson, the question remains if WWE superstars can successfully change paths and become great actors. I originally was going to discuss the idea that Dwayne Johnson’s acting career has been inferior to that of his former WWE colleague Dave Bautista’s , who is appearing in more films as of late, as I have found some of Bautista’s performances in films such as Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) to be much more enjoyable than The Rock’s blockbuster films like Central Intelligence (2016) . However; although Bautista has vocalised his desire to be an actor as opposed to just a movie star, both men are stuck in the roles of the muscular and powerful characters that they were in the WWE. Dave Bautista in his role as Drax, from the  Marvel Universe Johnson and Bautista have upcoming summer releases, Hobbs & Shaw and My Spy respectively, which see them taking on roles of “badass” governmen...
